Left Banner

With barefoot shoes, your usual size is not enough: every brand sizes differently, and the wide toe box changes the fit. The safest way is to measure your feet in centimetres and compare with the size chart of each model.

What you need

Two white A4 sheets, a pencil, a ruler and, if possible, someone to help you.

Measuring your feet

  1. Ideally measure at the end of the day, standing, with your weight evenly spread over both feet.
  2. Place your right foot flat on the sheet, with your back straight. Mark the tip of your longest toe, your heel and each side at the widest point (the metatarsals), holding the pencil upright.
  3. Do the same with your left foot: your two feet are often not the same size.
  4. Join the marks and measure the length (heel to toe) and the width (at the metatarsals) in centimetres. Keep the measurements of the larger foot.

Measuring the length and width of your foot on an A4 sheet

Reading the size chart on the product page

On each product page, the “Size guide” tab gives a length in centimetres for each size. Depending on the brand, it is either the length of the insole or the recommended foot length: the column heading tells you which.

  • If the chart gives the insole, the safest way is to measure the insole of one of your favourite pairs, the one you feel most comfortable in, and choose the size whose insole is closest to it.
  • If the chart gives the foot length, choose the size that matches your measurement.
  • If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

The instep

If you have a high instep (a high top of the foot), choose models with laces or hook-and-loop straps, which can be loosened. The product pages say when a model suits almost any instep height.
