Choosing your MTNG

What to know about the fit before you order.

Width

MTNG shoes suit narrow to medium feet. Good to know: barefoot shoes always leave far more room than conventional shoes, and your toes naturally spread out as you wear them.

Size

Rely on the size chart in cm on the product page; we recommend adding 0.5 to 1.2 cm for comfort.

Sole

Flat, thin and flexible sole, zero drop. Most Free models come with two insoles, with and without drop, for a gentle transition to barefoot. Free Alask ankle boots have thermal insoles, and the Free Vibram has a Vibram® sole for hiking.

Which model?

Sneakers: Free Aria, Miami, Alask, Orbit and Emi for everyday wear, Free Apolo and Jym in knit for a sporty look. Free Alask ankle boots: Chelsea, lace-up, zip, waterproof or lined for winter. Summer: Free Cleo sandals. Also Free Mia boat shoes and Free Care clogs.

The size chart in cm is on every product page.

MTNG at a glance

MTNG was born in Elche, Spain, under the name Mustang. Its founder, Pascual Ros, from a farming family, opened his first factory at 17, then made the brand known in Europe, Africa and America. In the 1980s the company reached 9,000 pairs sold a day; his children later turned it towards a younger audience.

As a German brand already called Mustang asserted its rights, the Spanish brand is now called MTNG. Its Free barefoot collection is available for women, men, children and babies.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose my MTNG size?

Measure your foot from heel to longest toe, then compare it with the size chart in cm on the product page. We recommend adding 0.5 to 1.2 cm for comfort: closer to 0.5 cm if you like a snug fit, closer to 1.2 cm if you like room for your toes or wear thick socks.

What are the two insoles for?

Most Free models come with a transition insole, with a slight drop, and a zero-drop insole. If you are new to barefoot, start with the transition insole, then switch to the zero-drop one when you feel comfortable.

Are the Free Alask Boots waterproof?

Yes, the waterproof version is waterproof and comes with thermal insoles. There is also a lined version for very cold days.

Are MTNG shoes vegan?

Many models are certified vegan, by PETA or by INESCOP: this is shown on each product page. Some models are made of leather, such as the Free Mia, some Free Cleo and the Free Alask Suede.

Can I machine-wash my MTNG?

The Free Vibram can be machine-washed. For the other models, a damp cloth is usually enough.

Why was MTNG called Mustang?

The brand was born in Elche under the name Mustang. A German brand already using that name asserted its rights, so the Spanish brand is now called MTNG. They are the same shoes.
